Thomas Pesquet presents the new Astro Pi kit

On a mission aboard the International Space Station, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet presents the Astro Pi project and its new possibilities.

The European Astro Pi challenge offers students the opportunity to conduct scientific experiments in space by coding a computer program to be run on Raspberry Pi computers installed in the International Space Station (ISS).

Two missions are available with two different levels:

  • Mission Zero: for ages 8 to 14
  • Mission Space Lab: for ages 8 to 19

The new generation of Astro Pi

This year, two next-generation computers will be sent to the ISS, enabling participating teams to design new experiments. They will be able to take sharper images and obtain color photos of Earth from space using the high-quality Raspberry Pi camera, as well as develop machine learning models that can process phenomenal amounts of data at high speed using the Coral machine learning accelerator.
