Description

This program aims to introduce the basics of astronomy through observations of the sky with the naked eye or with instruments, both during the day and in the evening. Various astronomical objects, from the solar system to deep space, will be discussed in terms of their physical characteristics, leading to an understanding of the structure and history of the universe.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify different types of astronomical objects.
  • Build and manipulate a sky map, use modeling software.
  • Experiment to understand how a telescope works and learn how to use it.
  • Understand how the model of the universe has evolved over the centuries, shaped by science, myths, and legends.
CNES contributor to previous editions

An engineer at CNES (Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, Toulouse), Wilhem ROUX is currently Head of Scientific Processing for the European Space Agency’s GAIA mission. Launched in 2013, this space observatory aims to measure the position, distance, and movement of the surrounding stars. From the data processing center, known as DPCC, he coordinates development and operations activities between computer engineers specializing in big data and the community of astrophysicists who are members of the European DPAC consortium.
